The Fisher House Foundation

About the Fisher House Foundation.

The Fisher House Foundation is best known as a network of comfort homes that provide a "home away from home" for families of Veterans who do not reside near the medical center and who wish to be close to their loved one while they receive care.

These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world. The Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families that stay at these homes share a comfortable living room, a common kitchen, laundry facilities, and a warm dining room.

There are 82 Fisher Houses located on 25 military installations and 34 VA medical centers. Many more houses are under construction or in design.

The Fisher House program was founded in 1990 in which the Fishers entered into a “public-private partnership” with the government. The government allowed Fisher to build on their land, after which the home was “gifted” back to the military, to operate in perpetuity.
